Wells Memory Cafe members had a musical treat at their April meeting when they were entertained by local band Simply Uke.
Simply Uke are a seven-piece band which plays a variety of music that spans several decades, including rock, pop, ballads, swing, jazz, blues and classical.
All members of the band play the ukulele, plus an impressive variety of other instruments, including harmonica, banjo, accordion, merlin, aerophone, melodica and others!
They visit day centres, care homes and charities where they play free of charge.
Claire Chettoe of Wells Dementia Action Alliance which runs the Cafe, said “The music soon had members tapping their toes, singing along and having a lovely time. We are grateful to Simply Uke for entertaining us and putting smiles on everyone’s face”
Music is important to people at the Memory Café but there’s something for everyone including talks from services supporting people with memory problems and their carers, games, quizzes, creative activities. The Cafe also signposts people to sources of support and information.
The Memory Cafe meets at Wells Methodist Church Hall on the 3rd Wednesday of every month from 2:00-3:30. Anyone who would like to know more can email: wellsmemcaf@gmail.com or call Claire on 01749 676248.
